Civilisations by their nature are knowledge based and that knowledge can be life-giving or destructive. Historically, the knowledge was very destructive. Militaristic, rich, proud and powerful kings thrived on the idea that they were strong and superior. People were encouraged to fight and even die for them, they were deceived into believing that they were fighting and dying for “God”, king and country, which gave the people the enthusiasm to sacrifice their all, which was exactly what the rulers wanted. Emperors and kings employed this deception as the best approach to satisfy their own need to expand their kingdoms and become richer and more powerful. Dishonesty has always been one of the most powerful tools of our lower nature, and hundreds of millions have died as a result. Yes, the kingdoms and the wars have become bigger, but so too has the poverty and misery of the majority who now live on less than $2 a day.
It was inevitable that we would discover the folly of our past and abandon our blind allegiance to the ways of the rich and powerful, for it brings nothing but war, poverty and misery. This learning curve brought humanity from childhood dependence into adolescence. Although we have learned from the foolish ways of our past; lacking a vision, humanity, like an adolescent, has been indulging itself in whatever life could provide, with little or no thought of our responsibility or our future. Additionally our political and economic institutions remain hopelessly outmoded, and being based on man’s lower nature, are unjust, undemocratic, divisive and shrouded in secrecy. These institutions are totally incapable of solving humanity’s problems and have brought the global community into a state that is almost totally dysfunctional.
We have growing poverty and unemployment, we have a melt-down in the global economy, debt is out of control, we have global warming, war, thousands of nuclear bombs, we have terrorism, genocide, millions of people displaced, we have famine, disease... especially aids, and child labour, we have problems with drug trafficking, lawlessness and a lack of education - truly the list could go on and on, and in every area of concern the situation is getting worse day by day as we are governed by institutions, made by the rich and powerful, for the rich and powerful, which are making them richer and more powerful. Because these out-dated political and economic institutions are corrupt and incapable of solving our global problems, we, the people of the world, need to solve them ourselves, and this we can do easily by setting up our own administration, set up by us, the people of the world, for us, the people of the world, to serve us, the people of the world, based on internationally accepted principles, and not on the whims of people.
We, the people, are evolving because deep down at the very core of our being, each of us has a deep-seated tendency to grow, to create, to climb higher, to dig deeper, to go further, to do better, to develop systems, to advance wherever possible, to improve ourselves individually and collectively, to seek what is good, better and more just. We want to advance, to overcome our difficulties. We can call this innate desire to evolve our higher nature; it is very real, very positive, very powerful, very creative and growing.
In spite of the turmoil, humanity’s higher nature is evolving and our inner consciousness is transforming our outer reality, as individuals and collectively, and this consciousness, this people power is becoming a real force in the world today. We are beginning to recognise that we collectively, operating from our higher nature, have the power to transform this planet, making it a better home for all of us, for our children, and for future generations. In this the 21st century, we are recognising that the time has now come for a new beginning, for a new epoch in human history, for mankind's coming of age, and we are recognising the value of basing our civilisation on being civilised, on justice, equality and peace, on democracy and on the will of the majority, who simply want to live in peace and in dignity with their fellow citizens of Planet Earth.
This emerging consciousness will bring humanity from adolescence into adulthood, and into our long-awaited World Peace and we will transform this battlefield for survival, into a peaceful rose garden of tolerance and dignity, and in so doing, establish an ever-advancing civilisation. The cornerstone of this ever-advancing civilisation is mankind’s higher nature, which seeks justice, the equal status of all people and peace, inner peace and world peace, and all that is good.
