General:

Although we human beings have a sense of morality, historically we have, to some degree, behaved a little like animals, who, lacking a sense of morality, are lead by their base instinct and act in that way, each according to its character – the lion and the hawk will kill, the lamb and the dove won’t – the cuckoo will steal a nest, while the swallow will build its own. The strength, agility and aggression of the lion make him the king of the jungle, and the law of the jungle is that the physically strong dominate over the weak. Likewise the strength and aggression of a specific “lion type” of man has dominated the affairs of mankind throughout recorded history, they have dominated over everything and everyone, over men and woman, over institutions and nations. They institutionalised and legalised slavery and many other deplorable economic and political injustices. Using their own laws and institutions they have always dominated over the majority, and they still do.
At an animalistic or lower nature level, we ignore our sense of morality, and live and act according to the dictates of our own self and passion. However, unlike animals, we humans have an imagination and go on to build cars, telescopes and gas chambers. There is no limit to what we can imagine or build, first in our minds, and then outwardly, but like gas chambers, not all that we build is good.
If we wish to move away from what has caused us to build gas chambers, and towards what will cause us to build a world of justice, unity and peace, we need a new kind of information, a new kind of knowledge, not simply restricted to science, which cannot measure nor understand the non material world, the metaphysical or spiritual reality underlying all reality. Science, or at least humanity, would gain enormously, if we, like philosophers, define ourselves as human beings who desire “to comprehend the reality of all things”.
In spite of the enormous wealth of mankind’s vast scientific or material knowledge, the world, especially the political world, remains trapped in a quagmire of dishonesty, sleaze, corruption and secrecy, and is unable to control the poverty, war and degradation that surrounds us. So if we seek to move towards honesty, decency and truthfulness, towards justice, unity and peace, we don’t need just more of the same kind of scientific knowledge of the material world, as wonderful as it is, we need a different kind of knowledge or understanding, we need non-material, metaphysical or spiritual knowledge – for honesty, decency and truthfulness are not attributes of man’s material reality, but rather of his spiritual reality.
Scientists, such as Newton, Galileo and Einstein have all attributed well-known discoveries of the material world, to the use of insight, if fact, the theory of relativity, according to Einstein was conceived by him in a dream. Insight or intuition, although not part of science, has an extremely important part to play in our understanding of the reality of all things. Without this understanding, we are inclined to pride and prejudice, for example, failing to see the spiritual reality of the equal status of all men, makes us prejudiced, and tends to make us feel proud or superior. The root cause of all our problems is our failure to understand the reality of all things – the reality underlying everything.
The absence of this understanding leaves us trapped in our lower nature – in our animalistic state, which is devoid of a sense of morality, and causes us to act like the beasts of the field. In that state we seek our own self preservation and many will use anything to attain that goal, including dishonesty, sleaze and secrecy, and almost anything no matter how cruel. And these animalistic instincts cause fear and stress, and other negative emotions that play havoc in our lives, in the lives of our family, and in the lives of society in general.
On the other hand, the more we understand the reality of all things, the more we distance ourselves from our animalistic or base instincts, and substitute these negative instincts for positive attributes such as tolerance, honesty, decency, truthfulness and so on. These attributes help us to discover both our material and spiritual realities. Like time and space, the underlying reality of all things is infinite, and in essence, impossible to understand but it has attributes or energies that are very real and affect and connect everything in existence. The reality of man is that we too have the capacity to acquire these attributes, indeed, it is only by acquiring them that we become truly human – mature – and free ourselves from the diseases of greed, dishonesty, selfishness and so on, enabling us to mature – to be happy – to be peaceful – to be content – to be beautiful – to be prosperous.
The more we get to know the attributes of the underlying reality, the more we recognise its beauty, and our own beauty, and the beauty in others, and appreciate our relationship with people, the environment, and with the whole universe. Some people call it God – some don’t – but one way or the other, the knowledge and love which are but two of the attributes that we acquire, have the power to create within us a confidence and enthusiasm for life, for love, for real relationships, for inner peace and for world peace, and for all that is good and wonderful.
Surrounded as we are by a growing global consciousness, which is causing us to develop a very real abhorrence for dishonesty, sleaze, corruption and secrecy, and for all that is false, and creating within us, deep down at the core of our being, a desire for humanity to move towards honesty, integrity and openness, and towards all that is good. This is the most important sign that we are on the verge of maturity. To enable us to move in this direction, an understanding of our spirituality or higher nature is essential. Basing society on our lower nature hasn’t worked; basing it on our higher nature will set us free to build a global society, the way we really want it to be. Let’s do it together.
Life-Giving Knowledge
As pointed out in “A Global Community based on our Higher Nature”, the explosion of knowledge is nudging humanity towards maturity, and that knowledge will have a huge transformative effect. Knowledge can be divided into sections, and the most interesting, is the section of knowledge that deals with what we don’t know, and we don’t even know that we don’t know it. Two hundred years ago the world was extremely primitive, and as always, knowledge based. There is a massive amount that we know today that they didn’t know then; and they didn’t even know that they didn’t know these things, for example: television, air transport, a system of global instant communication, and so on. Likewise, two hundred years from now, we will know infinitely more than we do today, and today, we don’t even know that we don’t know these things.
The knowledge that we have today is truly wonderful, but our present level of knowledge is such that even with it, our global society is almost totally dysfunctional. This is due to a lack of knowledge. We are about to get to know that knowledge, and when we do, it will change the world completely, infinitely more than it has, over the past two hundred years.
Knowledge of our material or phenomenal reality means that we understand DNA, we know how to split the atom, how to land on the moon, and so on, but, as a global society, we don’t know how to live in a way that is not dysfunctional, chaotic, war-like, poverty ridden, diseased, divided, stressed and dissatisfied in almost every way, and at every level. But we are but one step away from that knowledge or consciousness which will enable this to happen.
We will never understand everything, for example, at this point in our history, we don’t understand animal or human suffering, but we have a basic understanding, and the more we increase that understanding the more we will appreciate that everything in the universe is extremely wonderful, beautiful and purposeful, we will appreciate how it is organised, in one sense, not by its own knowledge, but by the underlying knowledge or laws that allows it to be as magnificent as it is. The component parts do not determine their own behaviour, for example, the moon’s behaviour is not determined by itself, but by gravity and other factors – underlying realities – but man is the exception, although our behaviour is determined by our emotions, knowledge and will power, we have the ability to change our knowledge, which will change our emotions, and subsequently our behaviour. It is absolutely clear, from the state of the world, that we need to change our behaviour, for we are destroying one another and our planet.
We destroy, when we have false concepts of reality; as humanity’s consciousness increases, these false concepts will decrease, and we will get closer to an understanding the reality of all things as they exist, not just the material reality, but also the spiritual reality. There will always be a gap between our understanding of what we believe to be true, i.e. knowledge, and the reality of all things as they exist, but our job is to narrow that gap. We have arrived at the dawn of a new day, for we are finally coming to an understanding that man’s reality is a spiritual reality, for we now want justice, unity and honesty which are spiritual qualities. The more we narrow the gap, the more we will become peaceful and fruitful, the more we will understand our oneness, our interdependence, our connectedness, and as we do, we will become more attracted to one another, to our environment, and instead of creating war, we will seek to create peace, instead of being guided by greed, we will be guided by our desire for all to have sufficient.
Life is so frantic and busy that we are “trapped” in our man-made, society-made, rich and powerful-made knowledge that we have a tendency to go around in circles, getting nowhere. Our suffering and the general state of affairs of mankind will enable us to slow down, allowing us to become ever more conscious of the underlying knowledge, and it will focus our attention on what is really important, it will energise us and make us enthusiastic and caring. For example, at the moment it is a mere statistic that 34,000 people die each day because we don’t have an economic or political system that is people-friendly. As we focus on reality, this statistic will be changed, from a mere statistic into a strong desire to act in a way that will change that reality. As we focus on our non-material or spiritual reality, our underlying knowledge or consciousness which is inherent in all of us, will manifest itself in many ways and will transform our lives, making them more beautiful and life-giving. There is about to be an explosion of this underlying knowledge and consciousness which will envelope the global environment and infuse our thinking and behaviour in a way that will transform human society. We are moving from darkness into light. This knowledge – this light can no longer be obscured. PPP is but one sign, among thousands, of this transformation.
An Ever-Advancing Civilisation
Everybody wants to be happy, we exist for happiness, but surrounded, as we are, by corrupt and outdated political and economic institutions that are causing little but war, poverty and misery, it is difficult to be happy. These institutions are stuck in their own history, in their own greed, while we, the majority of the people of the world, are evolving.
Phenomenal advancements have taken place over the past hundred years or so. The most extraordinary and important of these has undoubtedly been the evolution in mankind’s consciousness. Although less tangible then technological advancements, it is very real. Consider how justice, democracy and equality, have evolved over the last century, today, the majority of people accept others regardless of colour, nationality or creed, people want to live and let live. Compared to the early 20th century and previous centuries these attitudes are quite astounding.
Because of this evolution in consciousness we are becoming more accepting, tolerant and caring. And although we are fundamentally good, we don’t really know what makes us so, but the more we focus on our evolving state, on our “goodness” and our higher nature, the more it will increase and bring peace and love, into our lives. This encourages us to discover even more about ourselves and our underlying reality, and that process reduces stress and creates additional positive attributes which in turn leads to a greater knowledge or understanding, a greater sense of connectedness to others, to our environment and to the entire universe. This is a manifestation of the evolution in our consciousness, it is a spiritual awakening, and one that has advanced greatly and is continuing to evolve. In spite of what many believe, mankind is evolving spiritually.
As we grow in our awareness, we develop an abhorrence of war, injustice, corruption and of everything that has an underlying ugliness. The more we grow and create the more we, by our example, encourage others to mature. The process is accelerating and is transforming us individually and collectively into a global community that is increasingly seeking for peace and prosperity.
Deep down at the very core of our being, we know that everything can be infinitely better. Fundamentally, we know that there has to change. Mankind’s soul is crying out for a new beginning, for a fundamental change. This is that new beginning, this is that fundamental change, this is what visionaries and poets have been waiting for, and longing for. The time has now come for a new epoch in human history, when we, the people of the world, aware of our own maturity, are deciding to embrace this change, this new beginning, and, in our awareness, we will transform this war-weary world into a wonderful, joyful, and peaceful world, based on our new-found dignity.
Say yes to yourself, to your own dignity and beauty, to your maturity and responsibility. Say yes to your local and global community – Say yes to PPP.
The Power of Positive Knowledge
Civilisations by their nature are knowledge based and that knowledge can be life-giving or destructive. Historically, the knowledge was very destructive. Militaristic, rich, proud and powerful kings thrived on the idea that they were strong and superior. People were encouraged to fight and even die for them, they were deceived into believing that they were fighting and dying for “God”, king and country, which gave the people the enthusiasm to sacrifice their all, which was exactly what the rulers wanted. Emperors and kings employed this deception as the best approach to satisfy their own need to expand their kingdoms and become richer and more powerful. Dishonesty has always been one of the most powerful tools of our lower nature, and hundreds of millions have died as a result. Yes, the kingdoms and the wars have become bigger, but so too has the poverty and misery of the majority who now live on less than $2 a day.
It was inevitable that we would discover the folly of our past and abandon our blind allegiance to the ways of the rich and powerful, for it brings nothing but war, poverty and misery. This learning curve brought humanity from childhood dependence into adolescence. Although we have learned from the foolish ways of our past; lacking a vision, humanity, like an adolescent, has been indulging itself in whatever life could provide, with little or no thought of our responsibility or our future. Additionally our political and economic institutions remain hopelessly outmoded, and being based on man’s lower nature, are unjust, undemocratic, divisive and shrouded in secrecy. These institutions are totally incapable of solving humanity’s problems and have brought the global community into a state that is almost totally dysfunctional.
We have growing poverty and unemployment, we have a melt-down in the global economy, debt is out of control, we have global warming, war, thousands of nuclear bombs, we have terrorism, genocide, millions of people displaced, we have famine, disease... especially aids, and child labour, we have problems with drug trafficking, lawlessness and a lack of education - truly the list could go on and on, and in every area of concern the situation is getting worse day by day as we are governed by institutions, made by the rich and powerful, for the rich and powerful, which are making them richer and more powerful. Because these out-dated political and economic institutions are corrupt and incapable of solving our global problems, we, the people of the world, need to solve them ourselves, and this we can do easily by setting up our own administration, set up by us, the people of the world, for us, the people of the world, to serve us, the people of the world, based on internationally accepted principles, and not on the whims of people.
We, the people, are evolving because deep down at the very core of our being, each of us has a deep-seated tendency to grow, to create, to climb higher, to dig deeper, to go further, to do better, to develop systems, to advance wherever possible, to improve ourselves individually and collectively, to seek what is good, better and more just. We want to advance, to overcome our difficulties. We can call this innate desire to evolve our higher nature; it is very real, very positive, very powerful, very creative and growing.
In spite of the turmoil, humanity’s higher nature is evolving and our inner consciousness is transforming our outer reality, as individuals and collectively, and this consciousness, this people power is becoming a real force in the world today. We are beginning to recognise that we collectively, operating from our higher nature, have the power to transform this planet, making it a better home for all of us, for our children, and for future generations. In this the 21st century, we are recognising that the time has now come for a new beginning, for a new epoch in human history, for mankind's coming of age, and we are recognising the value of basing our civilisation on being civilised, on justice, equality and peace, on democracy and on the will of the majority, who simply want to live in peace and in dignity with their fellow citizens of Planet Earth.
This emerging consciousness will bring humanity from adolescence into adulthood, and into our long-awaited World Peace and we will transform this battlefield for survival, into a peaceful rose garden of tolerance and dignity, and in so doing, establish an ever-advancing civilisation. The cornerstone of this ever-advancing civilisation is mankind’s higher nature, which seeks justice, the equal status of all people and peace, inner peace and world peace, and all that is good.
Life is for Happiness not War
Over the past two hundred years the explosion of knowledge was primarily in the domain of our outer scientific knowledge, this is now changing and we are beginning to see a new explosion, this time it is, and will continue to be, predominantly in the area of our underlying reality – our non-material reality which has the capacity to transform our dysfunctional society into an ordered one. It has the ability to change our attitudes so that the power of greed – the desire in me to have more, is transmuted into a desire for all to have sufficient, the emphasis will change from the love of power to the power of love.
This transformation will be accelerated by the failure of the political and economic institutions that we now have, to satisfy our needs. As society, presently built on military and economic superiority, fails us, and as the injustice, secrecy and corruption leads nowhere, mankind will continue to search for the reality underlying the reasons for our deplorable state, and for the reality, not just underlying our deplorable state, but underlying everything. And as we search, we will find it, in the form of knowledge, and as we do, we will become attracted to it, and to it’s extraordinary potential to develop ourselves and the planet, it will give us self-confidence and the determination to change this world of disease, poverty, misery and unemployment into one that provides dignity for all. And as our exhausted society continues to disintegrate our new one will be born.
The more we discover this underlying reality, the more we will be attracted to it, and consequently, the more we will want to know about it. It is this desire to understand the new knowledge, that will cause the next explosion that will lead to humanity accepting that we are one; we will discover and love the reality of our connectedness to everything, to our environment, and to the entire universe, and we will grow in our respect for the underlying reality that shapes everything. We will be in awe of it, and of its transformative effect in our own lives and in the life of our global society.
This knowledge is not new, it is as old as humanity itself, but somehow, somewhere along the way we lost sight of it, but finally humanity as a whole, is about to rediscover it and in so doing we will discover how to live in peace and in harmony inwardly as individuals, and outwardly as one integrated, harmonious and prosperous global society.
The Age of Responsibility
Over thousands of years the people of planet Earth lived as tribal communities that differed one from another. Some developed into powerful civilisations that came and went, and others didn’t. In all cases, but in different ways, there were those who perceived themselves, for whatever reason, as leaders, and like fathers, took on the responsibility of leading “their” people. Some became strong warriors and built powerful kingdoms, and others didn’t. The mind-set of the time was not as it is today – then, the vast majority, like children, were happy to have a “wise”, powerful and protective father to rule over them.
Over the last two or three hundred years as the tribes and territories of the planet became more accessible, the battles for supremacy became bigger, and the influence of the rulers and “their” nations left no corner of the world untouched. As their power and empires became more widespread it became impossible for rulers to control everything, so they were forced to share their power, wealth and influence with a growing number of people, who, mainly by commercial means, were gaining their own power and wealth. Together they built armies, navies, laws, institutions and governments, and then they divided, amongst themselves, Africa and the other continents of the world, and exploited them to the best of their ability.
The vast majority of the people of the world became more and more dissatisfied with their lot, and the global battle for justice and equality began in earnest with many political movements. Some, believing themselves to be leaders, organised the people, and using violence overthrew the ruling class; overwhelmed by their own power, and their desire for more, they became more dictatorial than those whom they had overthrown.
Others believed that the battle could be won politically, and fought in the political arena, but there is no battle, there is no war, and slowly but surely they came to understand that they had little or no power, for it was in the hands of the rich and powerful corporate world of business, who own and control the banks, the arms industry, the oil, the energy, and almost everything else of value. And all these resources exist so that they can make a profit, and become richer, they do not exist for the Common Good. This has left the politicians weak with little or no control, as it lies in the corrupt structures and institutions and of the rich and powerful. This is the root cause of all our political and economic problems.
What is the Solution
Since the problem is caused by the reality that the day to day lives of the vast majority of the ordinary people of the world are controlled by the corrupt structures and institutions, of the rich and powerful, the solution is for us, the ordinary people, to create our own structures and institutions in the form of an International Assembly as described in “It (the International Assembly) will be Totally Democratic”. We have an inalienable sovereign right to control our own destiny, and this is what we will do, and the sooner we do it the better.
Let us, the children, teenagers, women and men of Planet Earth, unite together and take ownership of our own Planet, and ownership of its management, and ownership of the suffering on it, and ownership of this plan to end that suffering. Let their suffering be our suffering. Let this Assembly be our Assembly. Let each of us, for the sake of humanity, and for the sake of all those who are too poor to stay alive, set about this transformation, let there be universal participation in this honour of creating World Peace, so that the overwhelming majority of mankind will embrace it, thus ensuring a smooth transition from the old aggressive world reality to a new peaceful and just one. Let us, let all of us; choose this infinitely better alternative - of fairness-for-all.
Say Yes to PPP, for everyone is a Person for Peace and Prosperity.
People of World Peace and Prosperity
The time has now come for a New Political Beginning.
Humanity is about to advance in a way that will enable us to live in peace and prosperity. Taking that step is not just possible, our history demonstrates beyond all reasonable doubt that it is inevitable, and that it will lead to new levels of freedom, dignity and opportunity. This step will transform the world and make work, food and water available to everyone, everywhere. It will lead to health and education, to the freedom for each to rear his* family in a clean environment with an eco-friendly energy supply. It will also give us the freedom to travel and live in any country of our choice. The step we are about to take is very practical and becomes extremely obvious as we glance through our history.
* Terms such as "mankind", "man" and "he" used in this paper refer equally to both genders. It is hoped that it will not cause offence.
We have come from a caveman-like existence, where small gatherings of people lived and cared for one another in groups. These groups and their territories grew larger and larger. They lived as clans or tribes and eventually as nations and their mindset was “we are good, we will protect ourselves and look after one another”. However, surrounded as they were by enemies who were prepared to kill them, they had no choice other than to kill in order to protect themselves. It was a question of kill or be killed.
The history of mankind is the story of these groups fighting and killing, and growing into ever larger and larger groups, living to some degree in harmony among themselves, but always at war with the other – the enemy. Their armies grew larger and larger and so did their battles and wars. The 20th century suffered two conflicts which were world-wide in magnitude. Our groups have become so big that we are running out of enemies and our bombs so destructive that not only might they destroy the enemy they may well destroy the one who unleashes them.
Human history is the story of these people uniting into ever larger groups, and struggling for justice and advancement. Legions of people have fought and millions have died in pursuit of justice and in an insatiable quest to improve the human condition. The road to what has been achieved thus far has been long, agonising and bloody, but humanity, in spite of its difficulties, and not withstanding the injustices that still exist, is advancing. The progress of the human race has been a relentless chain of innumerable peaks and troughs, with a predisposition towards advancement. Time and again humanity's fortunes have appeared to be waning, yet despite appearances it has continued to grow, elevating itself, and moving generally in an upward direction. Over and over, man-made structures or systems which were deemed to be undesirable were superseded by more appropriate ones. History corroborates this fact. Brevity allows but a few examples: the elimination of the feudal system, the abolition of slavery, the elimination of males only having the right to vote, and the ending of the apartheid system.
All these systems were, in their day, viewed by the vast majority to be unavoidable and therefore lasting; believing as they did that these represented a permanent mode of behaviour which simply manifested the human condition. At first only a tiny minority of people recognised that these were not permanent but rather temporary, yet inevitable developments along the slow evolutionary trail. The eradication of these systems was both achievable and desirable and so each in turn was ousted due to man's desire to improve. Nothing ever remains the same, everything is evolving. Now in our time, we too, view certain current conditions as inescapable and lasting, like for example war, poverty and unemployment. Is it not possible that these too, like the apartheid system and the others mentioned, are transient and simply an unavoidable development in humanity's struggle, as it moves towards maturity?
Our history has been one of fighting to survive, and so all the emphasis has centred on being big, strong and powerful, for it was such people and nations who survived and ruled. Their rule was based on being strong and powerful and so it is hardly surprising that primitive attitudes relating to power still linger to this present day. There are obvious historic reasons why almost all nations, races, religions and peoples have considered themselves superior. The use of a “might is right” approach to solving problems, has only aggravated the difficulties and has resulted in a strong sense of injustice, frustration and anger throughout the world. Understandably there are some people who have been consumed by this injustice and frustration, it could not but be otherwise considering how mankind has evolved.
Phenomenal advancements have taken place recently, and over the past hundred years or so. The most extraordinary and important of these has undoubtedly been the evolution in mankind’s consciousness. Although less tangible than technological advancements, it is very real. Consider how justice, democracy and equality have evolved over the last century; today, the majority of people accept others regardless of colour, nationality or creed. Nowadays, people want to live and let live. Compared to the early 20th century and previous centuries these attitudes are quite astounding.
We have arrived at a higher level of understanding, we now accept the equal status of men and women, of black and white, and we have learned to respect the equal status of each race and of all people. We have arrived at a new level of democracy, where we accept the rights of all nations. Few individuals now think in terms of inferior or superior people, races, nations, or even religions. People in this day and age think of themselves as equals among others. What an incredible transformation has taken place.
Although we human beings have a sense of morality, historically we have, to some degree, behaved a little like animals, who, lacking a sense of morality, are lead by their base instinct and act correspondingly, each according to its character – the lion and the hawk will kill, the lamb and the dove won’t – the cuckoo will steal a nest, while the swallow will build its own. The strength, agility and aggression of the lion make him the king of the jungle, and the law of the jungle is that the physically strong dominate over the weak. So likewise men dominated over women – it’s less than a hundred years since we established the right for women to vote. White men enslaved black men, women and children, our animalistic tendencies institutionalised slavery and much more besides. Unfortunately, the negative side of man has dominated the affairs of mankind throughout recorded history. The strong and powerful, politically, economically and militarily, have always dominated over the weak, and they still do.
However, man’s moral sense has evolved to such a degree that many types of behaviour, once considered normal, are now becoming more and more distasteful and so most people now desire to move away from the age-old practice of one dominating over the other; male over female, white over black, employer over employee, one political party over another. We have evolved to a state where this is no longer acceptable; in fact it is quite repugnant. The idea that man’s political and economic organisation and institutions are based on his lower nature is becoming increasingly unacceptable and intolerable. The idea that so much is based on our base instinct is becoming more offensive as we increasingly recognise that they are the cause of a long list of our most serious problems: War, Extreme Poverty, Growing Unemployment, Global Warming, Terrorism, Genocide, Displacement of Millions of People, unfortunately the list continues, Famine, Disease – especially Aids, Child Labour, Chaos in Global Economy, Lack of Regulation and Transparency in the Banking System, it continues, Debt out of Control, Drug Trafficking, Lawlessness, A Lack of Education, Food and Water –– truly the list could go on and on.
Do we really want 60% of the people of the world to earn less than 10% of what is earned? I don’t think so. Do we want to spend hundreds of billions on armies and on 36,000 nuclear bombs to protect us from the “enemy”? The enemy is our base instinct. Organising ourselves on the basis of our lower nature is verging on insanity, it is primitive, it is very destructive, uncaring and extremely dangerous, even to the extent that it threatens the life of each and every one of us, as well as the planet itself. Do we really want to continue along this road?
Throughout history and right up until now almost everything has been organised on the basis of our primitive tribal past. This has established the foundation upon which we live our lives, it has created a “way of being” – a “system” with very powerful institutions and structures. Having been around for so long, these are more controlling and infinitely more powerful than any living person or political party. This “system” is a reflection of man’s lower nature, and its shape, if it has one, is pyramid. One might say it is made in the image and likeness of our lower nature. It wants us to believe that we live in a democratic world, and most of us do believe it, simply because we choose the leaders on top. The world is under its sway. Political leaders and political parties have little or no control over it. Many blame our politicians, but the solution lies far beyond their control, it’s not their fault, it’s the fault of the system. The system is controlling almost every aspect of our lives – our job, our house, our health, our education, our supply or lack of supply of food, water and energy. It is absolutely imperative and infinitely wiser that we control the system, instead of it controlling us and our politicians. Real democracy is about us, together, managing a just, mutual arrangement that benefits everyone, based on those principles that we universally hold such as Justice, Democracy and the Equal Status of all People. The time has now come for us to do this, and the way to do it, is for us to focus, not on our lower, but on our higher nature.
Deep down at the very core of our being, each one of us has a deep-seated tendency to grow, and create; to climb higher and to dig deeper; to go further and do better. We want to develop systems and advance wherever possible; we want to seek what is good, better and more just in order to improve ourselves individually and collectively. Anything that can be achieved will be achieved, if it is desirable; after all, most of our problems are simply symptoms of our tribal fears and impulse to dominate. The human race is endowed with extraordinary capacity and creativity, and with amazing qualities. We simply need to focus on these and on the beauty of our astounding diversity of talents and cultures, of colours, customs, languages and traditions. It is unwise to see these differences as a problem, they are an opportunity, for the mood of the age is one of unity in diversity. Just as the diversity of flowers in a garden increases its beauty, so too is humanity’s beauty and capacity increased by the extraordinary diversity of its peoples, such diversity must be encouraged. We need to be constructive and build on these talents and on our willingness to cooperate.
One dominating over another has never, and will never bring peace and prosperity; cooperation will. By changing ourselves, we can change our world and allow it to move in the direction we want to go. A great deal will be gained by focusing on what is positive, and on internationally held principles. Mankind is about to take that step and recognise his higher nature and the practical advantages of ordering his life and the life of human society on it, and on those principles that we universally hold, such as Justice, Democracy and Equal Status. Totally based on cooperation we can reorganise the affairs of mankind by forming an International Assembly based on moral standards, whose authority will come from the will of the majority of the citizens of planet Earth. The Representatives will exercise that authority democratically by coming to all decisions based on a majority vote among all the Representatives, indeed being based on cooperation we, the people of the world, can and will design the Assembly to be the way we want it to be. National Governments will remain autonomous, independent and sovereign, under the umbrella and protection of our International Assembly, and with as little intrusion into their affairs as possible.
The following is a wonderful example of how global cooperation can and will work, in this instance, creating meaningful employment for everyone, everywhere:- Because of the ever-increasing quantity and sophistication of machines, companies throughout the world are decreasing the number of people they employ each year relative to their turnover. Instead of allowing this ratio to decrease, the Assembly will increase it until everyone in the world is employed. Due to automation and to this arrangement we will all spend less time at work and without any loss in what we earn. It will not cost employers anything extra as the amount of social insurance that they paid will be reduced proportionately to compensate for the larger workforce. The loss of revenue to the state will be balanced by increases from other revenues. Such an obvious amendment to our “way of being” is not rocket science, it’s simply common sense, but the consequences are absolutely mind boggling. This is but one example of how the principle of cooperation can and will benefit every individual, company and government in the world.
Building political and economic institutions and structures based on morals or principles, has unimaginable potential. Sure, some people will think that all this is too good to be true, or even that we don’t deserve it. But surely we do; humanity has suffered enough war, poverty and degradation, now the time and the possibility has come for us to live in peace. Enough people have starved to death, we have killed enough people in battle, we have used enough bombs and bullets; enough is enough.
It is sad but totally understandable that our institutions developed the way they did, we would do well to understand and accept that fully, and then move on, for these institutions are no longer fit for purpose; everything has changed, and most of all, we now care and respect one another more than ever before. According to psychology, caring for others as much as we care for ourselves is emotional maturity, OK, we’re not there yet, but we are getting closer and closer. This caring and respecting is Justice, and this Justice creates Unity – a brotherhood of mankind, and this brotherhood or sisterhood will create world peace. This is the step that we are about to take, and when we do, the Assembly will declare world peace. It will create full employment, provide food and water for the destitute, it will eliminate poverty, transfer wealth from the richest countries to those in most need, just as they have done in Europe. The Assembly will transform the health situation throughout the planet; it will improve the environment and upgrade working conditions. In time, it will overcome all of the major international problems, and create an atmosphere of cooperation that will make this world a better place for all to live. This new cooperation between the people of the world will ensure that all are empowered to develop, not just in a material or economic sense, but socially, educationally, emotionally and spiritually, as we search to live life more fully, in peace with ourselves and in harmony with others.
No doubt some will argue that all this is too idealistic. Ridding ourselves of slavery and the apartheid system was also idealistic. Yes, it is idealistic, but it is also practical, achievable and desirable, and besides, the alternative is unimaginably dangerous. And yes, it may be met with cynicism and even ridicule but as it is examined and understood it will become manifestly clear that this alternative is infinitely better than what exists. It is mind boggling, it is extremely difficult to believe, but it is true; our attitude to everything is changing – we are adopting a truly positive mindset, and we will use it as the new foundation upon which to establish peace and prosperity with a 21st century understanding of how we can be.
Initially, there may well be some people, or groups of people, or maybe even governments, who may be opposed to such an undertaking, for some leaders may well believe that the “old way” is better for them and that it should be maintained for "their people”. Unfortunately, there are still some who believe that their nation, race or religion is superior and that it should be treated as such. However, the promise of peace and prosperity will hopefully encourage all people, companies, nations and governments of good will to come together to create a new beginning for mankind, so that together we can go on evolving into the future just as we have evolved in the past.
In reality, deep down in many peoples’ psyche there is a fear or dread of global organisation. There is the understandable anxiety that something might go wrong; in books and in movies it always does, and the planet ends up being governed by an evil force, or by some form of autocracy. This will not happen because we will give ourselves the authority to change anything we don’t like, with a majority vote in a referendum. Nevertheless, doing something new or unknown causes anxiety, the solution lies in fully understanding all of the extraordinary advantages of true democracy. We have arrived at the threshold of maturity, we need to be sensitive and to gently carry one another over the threshold and establish an Assembly based on Justice, Unity and Equality, that will carry us safely into the future and to ways that are unimaginably beautiful.
Let each of us decide in a practical and fair-minded way if this will be good for us, for our children, and for future generations. Changing humanity means changing ourselves, so let us in the name of all that is good, prove our maturity, accept the reality of our equal status, and choose to live in peace and in harmony. While accepting our lower nature as a part of our reality, let us centre our lives and institutions on our higher nature, and on principles that will guarantee an ever-advancing civilization.
Planet Earth is our home, we all belong here, and we have a responsibility to look after it, and to care for one another. We all share this tiny planet, and we all have an inalienable democratic right to determine our own future. Nobody can deny us of this right, this is our right, this is our responsibility, and this is our privilege. Let us then come together and exercise that right, responsibility and privilege, initially in small groups and then as one human family, and let our leaders be the principles of our higher nature.
So how do we get from where we are, to where we want to be? All it takes is goodwill, and the world has millions upon millions of people of goodwill, and also companies and organizations, who when they hear about this plan, will embrace it with open arms. The idea therefore is to unite this goodwill, this concern, this creative capacity and energy so that it grows and grows and like a magnet it will draw others to it uniting the hearts of the people of the world. One World Our World – which is everybody, will coordinate this life-giving energy, and together we will celebrate our coming together, our unity, and all that is positive about it. We will celebrate our desire for justice, unity and peace, we will celebrate our victory, humanity’s victory, for, although it hasn’t arrived yet, we know that this life-giving positive idea will establish itself and triumph in the form of our International Assembly. We will all find our own unique way to celebrate. We will not coerce others to join; we will simply enjoy the privilege of helping to make this world more human. We will love our new “way of being”, we will love being who we are, we will love those who have joined us and those who haven’t, for in time, the darkness of our past will pass away, and together, hopefully by 11-11-11, Armistice Day, and now, One World Our World Day, humanity will be well on its way to basking in the glory of being truly human.
Deep down at the very core of our being each will celebrate this new positive “way of being”, each in their own way, in their own home, school, place of work, or community. Together we will breathe new life into ourselves and into the wider community which will encourage more and more to reach out. For the vast majority of the ordinary people of this war-weary world want a new beginning. And yes a New Day is dawning, a new “way of being” – and it will be desired by politicians and non-politicians alike; all reasonable and fair-minded people will welcome it. Everyone is yearning to find a “way out” of our dilemma; a solution is being sought after by everybody, by our ecologists and economists, by our newspaper editors and television presenters, by pastors and poets, pop stars and film stars. We will find it within ourselves in a new faith and optimism in humanity as we live in hope and in tolerance. This will generate an enthusiasm as we move forward in confidence, uniting the world, one heart at a time. Let none of us dwell on what cannot be done, let us rather focus on what we can do, and reach out to those of like mind, and join with them to unite humanity and see our dream, of World Peace and dignity, come true. Yes, we will celebrate each and every victory. There will be no “them” and “us”, just humanity as a whole as we move slowly but surely towards embracing this life-giving idea, and together we will make it a reality.
The goodwill, combined with the many practical and material advantages, such as full employment will attract a great number of people. Editors and journalists have a pivotal role to play. They have the great honour and responsibility of presenting as much information as possible, in a way that will ensure that most people understand the importance of this inspirational yet practical idea of an International Assembly. Recognising and understanding the value of the gems and jewels latent within the International Assembly will create a ground-swell in public opinion. This ground-swell will grow as people from all nations, from all political parties, from all sections of humanity, come together in unity, and in excitement – and join in a spirit of justice and peace, creating a tidal wave of enthusiasm for this new Assembly that will ennoble us, and enable us to forge the shape of our own destiny, through our own Representatives. This enthusiasm will create a yearning for change that will spread from country to country until it reaches a crescendo and envelopes the entire globe, transforming our desire for peace and prosperity into reality. This will lead us, humanity, to the two democratic phases that we need to participate in to reach our goal.
Phase One
The wisdom of choosing this new “way of being” will be adopted, desired and taken on board by more and more people from every section of society, including butchers, bakers and motorcar makers, and also by our politicians. In all local, national and international elections we will choose candidates (no matter what political party they belong to) who share our desire to live this new “way of being” under the shelter and protection of our own International Assembly. We will start immediately and continue to do this until a generous majority of the Members of Parliament in the world are in favour of this plan. When this happens, that generous majority will give us, the people of the world, a very clear mandate to move on to Phase Two.
Phase Two
The people of each country in the world will elect one to four people depending on the size of its population; those candidates will come from that country and will, hopefully, have earned a reputation for their wisdom and concern. When elected they will act as a voice for the people of the world, but also as a voice for the spirit of their nation, and as a voice for the government of their country, for this is part of mankind’s on-going evolution, it’s not a revolution; presently the institutions and structures (including our nuclear bombs) are in the hands of governments. The elected Representatives will form an Assembly on behalf of the people and governments of the world and declare World Peace. Having been elected, the Assembly will spend a short but adequate amount of time preparing a “Package Deal” which will bestow Justice on each and every person, on both genders, on every nation, race, religion, culture, colour, class, company and government in the world. The Assembly will then present the treaty or agreement to us, the citizens of Planet Earth. If we, the people, endorse it, then, and only then, will the Assembly begin to legislate.
There can be no doubt whatsoever but that the step of choosing to build our lives and institutions on all that is positive is the foundation stone of a new world civilization. Therefore, let us, the children, teenagers, women and men of Planet Earth, unite together and take ownership of our own planet, and ownership of its management, and ownership of the suffering on it, and ownership of this plan to end that suffering. Let humanity’s suffering be our suffering, let this Assembly be our Assembly, let each of us, for the sake of humanity, come together and transform our world. Let there be universal participation in this honour of creating world peace, so that the overwhelming majority of mankind may embrace it, thus ensuring a smooth transition from the old world to a new peaceful and just one. Let us, let all of us, choose this infinitely better alternative - of fairness-for-all. In the name of God, or in the name of reason, or in the name of common sense, or in the name of compassion, let us, at this time, in this 21st century, create a new epoch in human history – representing Mankind's coming of Age, and together we will transform this battlefield for survival, into a peaceful rose garden of tolerance and dignity.

People for World Peace and Prosperity
When I started my family of three in the early seventies, I, like many became increasingly disturbed by the built-up of nuclear weapons and the antagonism between the Capitalist and Communist super powers. I searched to find a new “ism” that might bring the two together. I failed, but in the process I found a way to eliminate poverty through the creation of full employment, which had the potential to unite humanity economically and politically, and it held the promise for World Peace. I launched the idea in 1984 at a large gathering of Members of Parliament, Senators, and other dignitaries in Dublin, Ireland. It got some publicity at the time (see Irish Times article) and was forgotten shortly afterwards.
Down through the years I sent the document to Presidents, Prime Ministers and to many others, including to every Permanent UN Representative in New York and Geneva who represented each Nation of the world. In the year 2000 I sent the document to Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, I received a reply from Mr. John Langmore, a Director of the United Nations (see his letter) saying the document was valuable and encouraged me to promote it.
And I continued to promote it, within my very limited means, at a number of Peace Conferences around the World, including 7th, 8th and 9th International Conference of the Chief Justices of the World, in Lucknow, India, in 2006, 2007 & 2008.
Capitalism as it exists today is a remnant of the primitive slave/master relationship where one dominates over the other, leading to all sorts of problems including the existing Global Economic/Unemployment Crisis, it leads to war, poverty and to every kind of misery. It is not a system; it is rather the lack of a system, based on the primitive concept of might in right, and the age-old natural process of the survival of the fittest. We need, and we will have a system of Ethical Capitalism, based on our higher nature, where all are protected.
I am totally and completely confident that soon, my children, and now my four grandchildren and everyone else in the world, will see the birth of a new civilisation based on justice, unity and peace. Photo

People for World Peace and Prosperity
The PPP Document
Introduction
This document demonstrates beyond all doubt that World Peace and Prosperity will be achieved, and in a way that will enrich the lives of all people throughout the world. Everyone will gain, not just financially, but in every way. The plan is very practical and shows how humanity will eliminate unemployment, extreme poverty and establish World Peace, thus totally transforming the fortunes of the human race; every individual, company and government in the world will gain, it is a real win/win situation for everybody. The global community moves from crisis to crisis and from one conflict to another. It has many extremely urgent and appalling problems, especially poverty, and to resolve them, international co-operation is not only desirable, it is absolutely essential. Worldwide co-operation is now mankind's greatest need, and it will be achieved, and will totally transform the global community and herald enormous improvements in the social, economic and political life of the people of the world. We will learn to live and to co-operate with one another, and to manage the planet intelligently and democratically. Every company, club, school, and organised group on the planet has a form of Management that works, but the planet itself has none - this document shows how we, the people of the world, will provide Planet Earth with a model of global administration that is truly effective, totally democratic, with all decisions being based on a majority vote, and with us, the people of the world, having the right to change anything that we don’t like, by a majority vote in a referendum. To talk of World Peace or full employment may seem utopian; however, anyone with even a nodding acquaintance of sociology knows that society is evolving into ever larger and more harmonious groups. This will continue, therefore it is inevitable that the countries of the world will interact and co-operate with one another as one interconnected entity. The ideas put forward in this presentation are an expression of humanity's ongoing evolution. It is hoped that the following pages will assist this process by helping to bring humanity to the realisation that World Peace, Full Employment and Prosperity are now available to mankind. We will get these, as soon as we, the people of the world, choose democratically those politicians who want this new approach to World Peace. Humanity is evolving because deep down at the very core of our existence, each has a deep-seated tendency to grow, to create, to climb higher, to dig deeper, to go further, to do better, to develop systems, to advance wherever possible, to improve ourselves individually and collectively, to seek what is good, better and more just. We want to advance, to overcome our difficulties. We are problem-solving beings, and because there is a solution we have found it. Human history is the story of people uniting into ever larger groups, and struggling for justice and advancement. Brevity allows but a few examples: the elimination of the feudal system, the abolition of slavery, the elimination of only-males-voting, and the ending of the apartheid system. The eradication of these systems was both desirable and achievable and each in turn was ousted due to man's desire to improve. Nothing ever remains the same, everything is evolving. Now in our time, we too view certain current conditions as inescapable and lasting, like for example war, poverty and unemployment. Is it not possible that these too, like the apartheid system and the others mentioned; are transient and simply an unavoidable development in humanity's struggle, as it moves towards maturity? It is possible to organise the affairs of mankind in such a way that work will be available to all, just as sure as we have abolished the apartheid system, so too we can be certain that unemployment will come to an end. We are drawing very close to the time, when no one will be denied the most basic of all human rights: the right to work in order to survive and support oneself and one's family in dignity. This all-important right is enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. But it simply remains a right – not a reality. This proposal explains in detail, how the major problems of humanity can be solved. There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that this plan can be implemented in a way that will ensure that all mankind* will benefit. People for World Peace and Prosperity was founded to promote the ideas put forward in this proposal. The plan did not originate from a political party, a religion, a government, or from any group, it was simply a cry from the heart, of just one ordinary citizen of the planet, to the people of the world, to involve themselves in this joint venture to establish co-operation among the people of the nations of the world, leading to Peace and Prosperity. It is a plea to every child, youth, woman and man in the world, to every president, politician and unemployed person, to move towards the realisation that World Peace, Full Employment and Prosperity are now totally and completely within our reach. It is good to remember that planet Earth is our home and that, we, the people of the planet, have the right and the responsibility to look after it, to care for one another and to have a say in how it is governed. We, the people of the world, are now about to do this, by convincing Members of Parliament worldwide, if they need convincing, to publicly declare their total support this new approach to solving our global problems.
Cause One of our Global Economic Problems
With the advent of automation in the 19th century, and of computers, microchips, robots and all sorts of wonderful labour-saving devices in the 20th century, we have thankfully developed technology to such an extent that automated machines are now capable of doing most of the work. Production is achieved by people and by machines, however, today, machines have many advantages and very often are better able to do the work; they can work faster, longer, and generally speaking more accurately, but most importantly they do not have to be paid, and so, not only are the machines better able to do the work, they also cost less. The result is that to produce a given quantity of goods, companies are progressively employing more machines and fewer people. To visualise the extent of the above problem, let's take an imaginary company producing cheese, coal, cars or whatever, and let's suppose that fifty years ago it had an annual turnover of €22 million and a work-force of 450 people. If we calculate that it had an annual 3% increase in turnover, and a reduction of the same percentage in the number of people employed, then the annual turnover is increasing while the number of people involved in producing it, is decreasing. This means that the Number of People Employed relative to the turnover is decreasing at an extremely rapid pace.
* Terms such as "mankind" "man" "he" and "his" used in this paper refer equally to both genders. It is hoped that it will not cause offence.
The continuous decrease in the number of people employed, relative to one million euro turnover, becomes obvious from a glance at the table or graph below. In our theoretical company, over a fifty year period, the ratio has dropped from 20.5 people employed per one million euro turnover to only 1 person.
Table 1
Graph 1
bn
In our hypothetical company fifty years ago there were 20.5 people employed per million euro turnover, today that figure is down to 1. These figures serve only to illustrate the dramatic decrease in the Ratio between the Turnover and the Number of People involved in producing it. The number of people employed in relation to the turnover is decreasing year after year. If we, the international community, do not control it, next year fewer people will be required and each subsequent year the number will be smaller. For us to ignore this economic reality is insane, it simply perpetuates the necessity for us to continue the process of replacing people with machines, thus creating an endless downward vortex of unemployment and of the need to compete even more fiercely. Because of the way the world economy has evolved in an uncontrolled way, most government ministers and company directors are "forced" to view the world market as a shrinking pie, to be fought over. It is possible to expand the market, and in a way that will secure full employment, co-operation and prosperity. No individual, company or country can be economically secure so long as those who manage the economy are "forced" to go on employing fewer, and moving to geographical areas where the work-force has no alternative other than to work for survival wages. The solution to our world's economic situation is not to continue to employ fewer and fewer people and to find new areas where human beings are forced to work for smaller and smaller amounts of money. Lack of organisation at an international level "forces" today's managers to involve themselves in the business of exploiting those who are the world's most deprived and underprivileged people. The proposed solution guarantees that such exploitation will come to an end. Our intelligence and imagination have enabled us to design these extraordinary tools of mass production. We now have a way that is fundamentally simple which ensures that every individual, company and government in the world will be extremely well served by this automation.
The Solution
Since the unemployment problem is caused by humanity’s failure to respond to the Decreasing Number of People Employed in Relation to Turnover, then obviously the solution is for us, the people of the world, to organize ourselves so that we respond to this Decreasing Ratio by increasing it. We do not have to allow the world's work-force to continue shrinking, it is infinitely better to reverse the situation simply by increasing the ratio which is presently decreasing, and this is what we are going to do. As we will see later, when we do this, full employment will become a reality within a short number of years. It is reasonable to assume that any agreement to solve the unemployment problem would cause at least some serious problems; however, such an assumption is inaccurate. When we examine the proposed solution, it becomes manifestly clear that the implementation of the solution presents us with three situations that appear to be “difficulties”, but on examination they turn out to be advantages that will benefit every individual, company and government in the world. In other words, it is possible to create full employment without creating any problems whatsoever. The ratio will to be controlled and that control will be exercised by the people of the world, through a democratically elected International Assembly and will be part of an overall plan for world peace and prosperity. The agreement will be legally binding and enforced as a part of company law. This will be accomplished without disruption or administrative complications, for almost all of the information that is required for it to function smoothly is already being made available to the appropriate tax authorities by employers, for the purpose of accessing tax liability. To create full employment the first step we will take is to calculate the number of people world-wide employed in each sector of industry, such as building, banking, the car assembly industry, and all the others. Then it will be necessary to determine the total annual turnover of each sector. Dividing the turnover by the number of people employed, gives a figure that represents the average turnover per person in that particular sector. This will provide the ratio between the annual turnover and the number of people employed in producing that turnover; this will have to be done for each sector of industry and commerce world-wide. To take the car assembly industry as an example: the number of people employed in assembling cars world-wide will have to be worked out. Having established the turnover, the ratio will then be calculated. In the illustration already given, in table 1, that ratio “for this year” works out at 98 people employed for every 96.4 million euro annual turnover. This figure of 98 would be used as a starting point in the process of deciding on a new higher ratio, which will become the Minimum Employment Ratio Figure (M.E.R.F.) for that particular group. The M.E.R.F. will be set by the International Assembly. Derogations of one kind or another will certainly be necessary in the case of specific countries and possibly even companies, depending on circumstances. When the negotiations are completed, let's suppose that for the car assembly industry, it is agreed to employ 100 people for every 96.4 million euro annual turnover, then that will become the Minimum Employment Ratio Figure for that sector. From then on, every car assembly plant world-wide will have to employ a minimum of 100 people for every 96.4 million euro annual turnover. The M.E.R.F. will then be worked out for each other sector of industry and commerce. The M.E.R.F. for each category of industry will then be increased slightly, by approximately 2% annually, until such time as unemployment will no longer exist. The introduction of such an agreement will guarantee full employment throughout the world. This will create an unprecedented "feel good" factor and will justifiably create enormous hope and confidence. Globally, we have the capacity to increase production very considerably because with more than half our citizens trying to survive on less than $3 a day, they cannot afford to buy even the food or medicine that they need to survive, so billions of items are not produced, not because they are not needed, but because the poor cannot afford to buy them. You cannot buy much on three dollars a day. But as the unemployed begin to work, they will buy more of what they need to live in dignity. This will create an unparalleled boom in the world economy, and this in turn will create additional employment. For every 2% increase in employment due to the international agreement, it is reasonable to assume that there will be at least an additional 2% or 3% increase due to the boom in the world economy. When these two factors are combined it results in a minimum of a 4% or 5% increase in employment each year. The solution does not rely on the "feel good" factor; it will simply speed up the process. The annual cumulative effect of a 4% increase in employment over a period of six years represents a 26.5% increase in employment as can be seen from table 2 below. An annual cumulative effect of a 5% increase over eight years represents a 47.7% increase in the number of people working.
Table 2
The figures speak for themselves. Depending on the "feel good" factor, which could be significantly higher, it will take approximately six to eight years to achieve full employment. Let us now look at the first “difficulty” – the cost of employing the additional people. The 2% mandatory increase in the size of the work-force can be organized to actually cost less, simply by adjusting the level of tax. Almost all companies and other employers world-wide are paying social insurance or tax on every person that they employ, based on his or her earnings. This tax varies from country to country, and ranges approximately from 5 to 15 percent. It may be in the form of a tax or social insurance - it is sometimes referred to as the "Employment Tax". To illustrate how the 2% increase in the size of the work-force can actually cost less, let's assume that a particular country has an "Employment Tax" of 13%, this makes employing people 13% more expensive than it otherwise would be. The idea therefore, is to reduce this tax, not by 2%, but by two percentage points, (which is considerably more) to 11% which will reduce the cost of employing the work-force by 2%. However, the increased size of the work-force will increase the cost by 2%. The cost goes down by 2% and up by 2% at the same time, the net result therefore is a zero percent increase. It’s an added advantage to arrange this tax concession in a way that will ensure that companies actually pay less, even though they will be employing more. We will achieve this by reducing the tax by 2.2 percentage points annually for as long as it is necessary. Table 3 on the following page assumes that the government tax is 13%, and that we agree to reduce it by 2.2 percentage points each year for six years, while simultaneously increasing the M.E.R.F. by 2% for the same duration. If the "Employment Tax" in a particular state is already low, for example 6%, then as soon as that figure has a negative value, instead of paying tax, the company will receive a compensation payment from the state, or from an international fund, to ensure that it will get the full benefit of the reduction. Such an arrangement will ensure that the overall cost of employment will be reduced as can be seen from table 3 on the following page.
Table 3
This saving of €6,090 in the sixth year represents a reduction of a half of 1%. The table clearly demonstrates that there is an overall reduction in the cost of employing the work-force. This reduction is not very significant economically, however, psychologically it is of great importance. So far, the examples taken have been of large industries, however, a similar system can be worked out for smaller-scale enterprises, such as farming, shops, garages, etc. Each type of business will have its own M.E.R.F. depending on the labour intensity, profit margins and so on, of that particular industry. Someone with a small business will have to employ others, as soon as he or she has reached a certain turnover, (let’s say €400,000) then for additional turnover (let’s say for every €200,000) that employer will have to employ an additional person. A system to enable overtime and part-time work to continue will be incorporated into the agreement. And now for the second "difficulty". If a company needs only one hundred people to produce its turnover what then will the extra people who are employed be doing? The answer is that for every 2% increase in the M.E.R.F. there will be a corresponding 2% decrease in the time spent at work. This will mean that in every place of work; in every factory, office and shop, the number of man-hours to be worked will not change, the only difference will be that more people will work shorter hours, they will get paid the same as before, but it will cost their employer slightly less. Table 4 below establishes that the number of man-hours to be worked will remain the same.
Table 4
As you can see from the chart, in only six years, a 39 hour week is reduced by more than four hours to only 34.63, a reduction of more than half a day. Today, many are unemployed, while many more are working hours which are far too long, both situations are unsatisfactory. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense if we all (those of us with employment) worked shorter hours? We have overcome the first "difficulty" of the cost of employing the extra people, and the second "difficulty" of finding work for them to do; we now need to look at the third and final "difficulty" - the apparent problem of the loss of revenue to the state, due to the gradual reduction in the "Employment Tax". This loss will be compensated for in a number of ways. Instead of the state having to pay out vast sums of money on unemployment assistance, they will in fact receive money, from those who had been unemployed, in the form of income tax, social insurance and in other taxes. The revenue from most taxes will be greater, due to increased spending, higher profits and other factors. In addition to that there will also be savings in a wide variety of expenditures in most of the social services such as health care and public housing. With everybody working there will be fewer social problems, such as crime, drug addiction, and so forth. These factors will more than compensate for the loss of income to the state from the reduction in the "Employment Tax". From the figures that have been outlined, there can be no doubt but that full employment world-wide will be achieved in six to eight years, and in a way that will benefit individuals, companies and governments throughout the world. This proposal is but one way to achieve full employment. It could also be achieved, for example, without reducing the "Employment Tax", by simply allowing the additional 2% in the cost of employment to be passed on to the consumer, doing this would have an inflationary effect of less than 1%, (as labour is only a part of the overall cost of production) and that would be a very small price to pay for full employment. The implications of being able to provide work for everyone, and in a way that ensures that all are gainfully employed producing the goods and services that we need, are beyond our imagination. It will put an end to extreme poverty, and to all kinds of exploitation, totally transforming the human race.
Some Other Global Problems
In addition to unemployment we have many other appalling problems that belittle the people of the world, especially poverty. Of what we earn here on planet Earth, 6% is shared out between 60% of the world’s poor population, the remaining 94% goes to the rich. Approximately 10% of our population is living in dire poverty. Of these 630,000,000 people, according to those who know best, approximately 2% of them, 12.6 million people die each year from poverty related disease. Our economic “system” kills them; it kills more people than those killed each year during the two World Wars. The problem is of that magnitude. It means that 34,000 people die from poverty each day. This holocaust can and will be brought to an end, because there is a solution and we are about to implement it; we cannot allow an economic system to kill 12,600,000 people every year. Hand in hand with this poverty we have extraordinary wealth. The hundred richest people in the world earn the same amount of money as the two billion poorest, one third of our population. This inequality of opportunity causes the type of frustration and anger that leads to terrorism and war. Global justice and global democracy is the only answer. We have 36,000 nuclear bombs ready and capable of being used, some of these bombs may have the capacity to kill every human being on the planet. We have sufficient chemical, biological and conventional weapons to kill hundreds of millions of our brothers and sisters. Much of what is happening on planet Earth today is very destructive, uncaring and extremely dangerous, to the extent that it threatens not just human society, but even the planet itself. The dreadful catalogue of difficulties from which mankind is suffering, is too long and complicated to be dealt with here, the following is but a short list: Extreme Poverty - Growing Unemployment - Melt-down of Global Economy - Banking Chaos - Debt out of Control - Global Warming - War - 36,000 Nuclear Bombs - Terrorism - Genocide - Displacement of Millions of People - Famine - Disease... especially Aids - Child Labour - Drug Trafficking - Lawlessness - Lack of Education - truly the list could go on and on. Our political system has been, and continues to be, incapable of solving the above problems. Companies have become bigger, richer and more powerful; their influence over international issues is extremely unhealthy. Many international decisions taken by politicians are influenced more by corporate gain than by what is for the common good. The rich and powerful people determine the fate of countries, and the rich and powerful countries determine the fate of the world. The greatest problem of all is the fact that our planet does not have any proper form of management, because no organization has been mandated to manage the world. The Presidents and Prime Ministers of the world are mandated to look after their own country, that is their responsibility and that is what they do, but nobody looks after the planet itself. Nobody has been given that responsibility; it lies, and must lie, in the hands of the entire people of the world. We are about to take on that responsibility by democratically forming a management structure that will have that responsibility. All decisions for all time will rest on the principle of a majority vote of all the representatives. And we, the people of the world can change whatever we don’t like by a majority vote in a referendum.
Mankind is Evolving
We are evolving politically, democratically and socially in every way. We have come from a cave-man like existence, where small gatherings of people lived and cared for one another in groups. These social groups, and their territories, grew larger and larger. They lived as clans or tribes and eventually as nations. In all these developments the mindset was, we are good; we will protect ourselves and look after one another. However, surrounded, as they were, by enemies who were prepared to kill them, they had no choice other than to kill in order to protect themselves. It was a question of kill or be killed. The history of mankind is the history of these groups fighting and killing, and growing into larger and larger groups of people, living to some degree in harmony with themselves, but always at war with the other - the enemy. The wise and spiritual always tried to get these people to change their approach, and to see all people as their brothers and sisters, so that all could live in peace. Their armies grew larger and larger and so did their battles and wars. In the 20th century two of these conflicts were world-wide in magnitude. Our groups have become so big that we are running out of enemies and our bombs so destructive that not only do they destroy the enemy they may well destroy the one who unleashes them. What has the killing achieved? The message has finally got through - we are all brothers and sisters, and it makes sense to live in peace. Phenomenal advancements have taken place recently and over the past hundred years or so. The most extraordinary and important of these has undoubtedly been the evolution in mankind’s conscious-ness. People nowadays think of themselves as equals among others. What an incredible transformation has taken place. The vast majority of people want peace, not just in a political sense, but we wish to live in harmony in a civilized world, where people are encouraged to discard preconceived ideas and prejudices. We want a world where people work with respect for one another in an atmosphere of harmony between worker, capital and employer. Today most want to live in a world where the rulers and the ruled co-operate for the common good of all. Yes, as individuals, we have arrived, but our international political and economic institutions are inappropriate, belonging as they do to the 19th or earlier centuries, and to a mindset that is totally outdated and morally impoverished by today’s standards. True, we are different, the human race is made up of an astounding diversity of cultures, colours, and customs, of languages and traditions, but the mood of the age is one of unity in diversity. Just as the diversity of flowers in a garden increases its beauty, so too is humanity’s beauty increased by the extraordinary diversity of its peoples, such diversity must be encouraged. Many great minds down through the ages both scientific and literary have given us an image of a world living in peace and in harmony. Mystics and poets have written of Peace on Earth, the Prophets of God have foretold that a time will come "when war will be no more", "when justice will cover the land" and when "the spears will be hammered into ploughshares”. Even a superficial study of the scriptures of the World Religions or a study of mankind’s social or political history suggests strongly that cooperation among the people of the world will be established, thus breaking away from the age old practice of one dominating over another; male over female, white over black, employer over employee, one political party over another. We have evolved to a stage where this is no longer acceptable; in fact it is quite abhorrent.
The implication of this politically is that we, the people of the world, will rule the world, not by some group dominating over another, but rather by us agreeing to do it together, democratically. The old way hasn’t worked, so we need a new one. We will want to have the right to change whatever we wish, so we will give ourselves that right. We will want the entire elected Representatives to have the right to make decisions on a majority vote basis, so we will give them that right. We, the people of the world, will want be able to decide on the essential structure, character and aims of the Assembly so we will decide to give ourselves that right, the right to insist that the Assembly presents a kind of charter to us, and we can decide, in a referendum, whether or not we wish to accept it.
At this stage of our development, it is surely repugnant to even consider handing over control of our affaires to any given section of society, no, our affaires are our responsibility, we will exercise that responsibility by establishing an International Assembly that will declare World Peace and solve all the problems which are simply symptoms of our tribal past.
Global Justice and Global Democracy
Our history, as just summarised, has been one of fighting to survive, and so all the emphases has centered around being big, strong and powerful, for it was such people and nations who ruled. Their rule was based on being powerful, not on justice, and so it is hardly surprising that primitive attitudes relating to power still linger to this present day. The existing international decision-making process, to the extent that it exists, is based on the idea that the powerful nations rule, and in reality, they rule in a way that protects their own interests; justice for the wider community is not really a factor. This is why there is such a strong sense of injustice and frustration in the hearts of so many throughout the world. Fortunately, humanity is about to move away from international decision-making, based on strength which is unjust, undemocratic and conflict-ridden. The Assembly is going to be exactly the opposite, it will be based on cooperation which will be just, democratic and all embracing. 1) It will be Just. Justice is the prerequisite for unity. Justice leads to unity and unity leads to peace. If there is no justice, people will fight for it, and that results in war. All inequalities will be abolished, and especially the greatest inequality of all; the inequality of opportunity - the appalling divide between the rich and poor; between the “haves” and the “have nots”. The solution to poverty does not lie in charity; it lies in justice - in an economic system that will offer work, stability and wealth to everyone everywhere. We will all be treated with dignity for we all have equal status. To say each person, gender, race, religion or nation has equal status is not being diplomatic, it is the reality, and to think otherwise is a prejudice, and an injustice. The people of the world will have a complete “Package Deal” which will offer them work, the right to determine their future politically, and equal status in every way. 2) It will be Democratic. According to the age-old definition of democracy, and according to Collins Dictionary, “democracy” is defined as a form of government for the people by the will of the majority of the people based on the concept of the equality of man, this aspect of “the Equality of Man” is presently missing, but will be at the heart of the International Assembly, and that will change everything. One, two, three or four Representatives, depending on the size of each country’s population, will be elected by the people of that country. Candidates may put their name forward, but may not, directly or indirectly, advertise in order to get themselves elected; for buying votes is an unacceptable distortion of democracy. For the sake of unity it might be wise if these Representatives were approved by the Government of their own country. These elected Representatives will form an assembly and make decisions, based on the three Universal Principles of Justice, Democracy and the Equality of Man. We all share this tiny planet, it is our home, we all belong here, and we all have an inalienable democratic right, and a responsibility to determine our own future. These Representatives will vote on all international issues such as how best to prevent war, poverty, and unemployment, indeed on all issues that affect the international community, and most especially, they will work out the most appropriate way to maintain World Peace. Not just World Peace, but justice, dignity and prosperity for all of mankind. This body will have the authority to make all the necessary decisions that need to be made, and they will have the power to implement them, even if that necessitates the use of force. 3) It will be United. It is the oldest battle cry in the world “united we stand, divided we fall”, and after all, we are all citizens of one sphere, one heavenly body travelling through space, called Planet Earth, and we all have the right to be respected and treated as citizens and given equal status. It is important to be aware of the difference between equality and equal status. We are not all the same or equal, China is not equal to Luxembourg; the population, income or talent of one may be superior, inferior or equal to the other, but both these nations and their people will be afforded equal status. For this to happen we will have a complete “Package Deal” which will offer equal status to every individual and nation. All people will be offered work, a say in how things ought to be, and peace and dignity. When this happens we will all feel united, and be united and will live together as one interconnected people. There are obvious historic reasons why almost all nations, races, religions and peoples have considered themselves superior, and therefore it is very understandable that many inequalities exist, it could not but be otherwise considering how mankind has evolved, however, the time has now come for these inequalities and injustices to go. To have freedom, dignity and peace, the people and governments of the world need to embrace the three fundamental principles of Global Justice, Global Democracy and Global Unity. We will do this and then people will not only have the right to work, the right to be cared for, to be educated, the right to be able to move freely from one country to another, these rights will be actualised, they will become the reality, and everyone will be actually working, will actually have sufficient food, will be educated, and will have the means to be able to move and live in peace in any country of the world. This Global Justice, Democracy and Unity - this International Assembly will without doubt lift humanity to an extraordinary new level of dignity and tranquility.
Making Global Democracy a Reality
The vast majority of the ordinary people of this war-weary world want World Peace, Full Employment and Prosperity. So too, do our Presidents and Prime Ministers; the treasure of World Peace is desired by politicians and non-politicians alike; it is cherished by all reasonable and fair-minded people. This gem is sought after by almost everyone; by our economists, newspaper editors and television presenters, by pastors and poets, pop stars and film stars. Over time, all will appreciate the many advantages of an International Assembly; they will embrace the concept and strive to make it a reality. There will be no “them” and “us”, just humanity as a whole, and we will grow into the idea, and take it to heart. This document is a call to you and to all of humanity to enthusiastically embrace this life-giving idea, and to encourage others to do the same.
This all-important plan must now be explained and promoted as much as possible, by as many as possible, until the idea is understood by all. Editors and journalists and all those who deal with current affairs have a pivotal role to play. A great honour and responsibility lies in the hands of all those who work in the news media, to present as much information as possible, in a way that will ensure that most people understand the importance of such an Assembly.
There will be a ground-swell in public opinion, as its many advantages are ingested and clearly understood. This ground-swell will grow as people from all nations, from all political parties, from all sections of humanity, come together in a feeling of unity and excitement, in a spirit of justice and peace, and create a tidal wave of enthusiasm for this new Assembly, thus enabling us to forge the shape of our own destiny, through our own Representatives. This enthusiasm will create a yearning for change that will spread from country to country until it reaches a crescendo and envelopes the entire globe, transforming the desire for World Peace and Prosperity into a reality, through the formation of an International Assembly based on Global Justice, Global Democracy and the Unity or Equal Status of all people.
We, the people f the world, will drive forward towards embracing this new concept of Global Democracy, of an International Assembly that will create Peace and Prosperity, and as we do, Kings, Presidents and especially Members of Parliament throughout the world will publicly declare their total support for this new International Assembly. Members of Parliament who do not publicly declare their total support for the International Assembly will be voted out of office in election after election by the majority of people who will be in favour of it. To ensure that the majority of the Members of Parliament in the world are in favour of the International Assembly, we, the majority of the citizens, will vote unfailingly and consistently in all local, national and international elections, only for those candidates who are totally and publicly committed, until they are the majority.
When the majority of the Members of Parliament throughout the world are in favour of the International Assembly, that will then give humanity the mandate to move to the next step, which is to hold elections throughout the world to choose the Representatives to represent the people of the nations of the world. Each country will vote for one, two, three or four Representative (depending on the size of its population) to act as a voice for the people of the world. When the Representatives are elected they will immediately form an assembly and declare a World Peace. That will hopefully occur on 11th November – Armistices Day, a day already set aside when we celebrate peace and remember all those who died in war, and it is now World Peace and Prosperity Day. Without delay they will begin to prepare a “Package Deal” of justice, dignity and peace which will include every individual and every nation of the world. They will begin a process of consultation with world peace and other organisations, who have worked on human rights and on world constitutions and the like. It will begin the process of defining national boundaries and the precise relationships between governments, ensuring that National Governments will remain autonomous, independent and sovereign, and that the Assembly will be totally free from the excesses of centralisation.
All international issues relating to trade, armaments, banking, agriculture, and all aspects of international affairs and standards, will be determined. They will create a system to abolish or phase-out trade barriers, and phase-in a fair economic system that allows all nations to trade together with the least amount of difficulty, and on a level playing field. This all-inclusive treaty may well include the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as part of its charter. Justice demands that such a package will include a proposal for full employment that will ensure that each person will have, not just the right, but the opportunity to work, so that everyone on the planet will be able to support himself and his family in dignity. These, and much more besides, will form the basis of any such treaty.
At an international level these Representatives will have supreme authority to rule, making all the necessary decisions, on behalf of the people of the nations of the world, and it will have the power to implement these decisions, even if that necessitates the use of force. To ensure that peace is maintained, it will have an army made up from every nation in the world.
The Assembly will spend an adequate period of time preparing this all-embracing package, treaty, pact, or settlement. Within the context of the International Assembly, the "Will of the Majority" will be of great importance; this means that the treaty will have to be presented to us, the people of the world, to be approved by us. If we, the citizens of Planet Earth, endorse it, then, and only then, will World Peace be established, (again hopefully on Armistice Day) and humanity will then develop in ways that are unimaginably beautiful.
For the sake of unity and peace, and for the sake of law and order, and as an acknowledgement that each country has developed in its own unique way, the Assembly will accept all governments regardless of their level of democracy or commitment to human rights. Then over time all National Governments will agree to conform to International Standards.
This International Assembly is what we, the people of the world, need, this is what is necessary, this will solve our problems, this is what is just, this is our right, this is what we want, this is what we are entitled to, and this is what we are going to get, and we, the people of the world, are not going to settle for anything less. This is not a sign of arrogance, but rather an acknowledgement that anything less than this, would be of no use. It has to be totally just, totally democratic, and totally united. No group of people, or group of countries, the rich countries, the poor countries, the oil countries, or whatever, can have any unfair advantage; that would make a mockery of the whole thing. If it’s not totally right, it is not right at all. It can’t be unjust or undemocratic in one way or another, it can’t be against a race, a colour, or a creed; it can’t be prejudiced in any way. The new approach has to be totally, one hundred percent, just, democratic and united.
No doubt some will argue that it is too idealistic. Ridding ourselves of slavery and the apartheid system was also idealistic. Yes, it is idealistic, but it is also practical and achievable, and besides the alternative is unimaginably dangerous. And yes, it may be met with cynicism and even ridicule but as it is examined and understood it will become manifestly clear that this alternative is infinitely better than the “system” that is crumbling down around us. It is mind boggling, it is extremely difficult to believe, but it is true, We, at long last, are about to transform our mindset and abandon the madness of our past and establish Peace and Prosperity through a new understanding of global society. Initially, there may well be some people, or groups of people, or maybe even governments, who may be opposed to such an undertaking, for they may well believe that "their way" is better and that it should be imposed upon "their people”. Unfortunately, there are still some who believe that their nation, race or religion is superior and that it should be treated as such. However, the proximity of World Peace and Prosperity will create an atmosphere which will encourage people and nations to join forces to form a vibrant and united Mankind. Unfortunately, deep down in many peoples’ psyche there is a fear or dread of global organization. There is the understandable anxiety that something might go wrong; in books and films it always does, and the planet ends up being governed by an evil force, or by some form of autocracy. This has not happened in the European Union and it will not happen when we become a Global Union, because we will have the authority to change anything we don’t like, with a majority vote in a referendum.
The Assembly will transfer wealth from the wealthier nations to those in most need, just as the European Union has been doing for many years. It has been very successful in Europe, and it will be equally successful when carried out on a world-wide scale, and will speed up the process of narrowing the gap between the rich and poor nations. It is difficult for most of us to come to terms with the fact that full employment and World Peace are actually possible, so we need to consciously reorganize our thinking to embrace this reality. The Representatives of the People of the World will dedicate themselves to their duty, and will, in time, overcome all of the major international problems; they will improve the environment, upgrade working conditions, transform the health situation throughout the planet, and seek to make this world a better place for all to live. This Assembly will ensure that all people are empowered to develop, not just in a material or economic sense, but socially, educationally, emotionally and spiritually, as we search to live life more fully, at peace with ourselves and in harmony with others.
Let each of us decide in a fair-minded way if this will be good for us, for our children, and for future generations. Let us, in the name of all that is good, prove our maturity, accept the reality of our equal status, and choose to live in peace and harmony. Sadly there is a tendency to think that all this is too good to be true, or even that we don’t deserve it. But surely we do, humanity has suffered enough war, poverty and degradation, now the time has come to live in peace. Enough people have starved to death, we have killed enough people in battle, we have used enough bombs and bullets; enough is enough.
Let us in the name of sanity establish this Assembly; we must not wait until such time as world conditions become so much more deplorable that we are left simply with no alternative. One thing is sure, the world situation must of necessity deteriorate as long as we remain without some form of global management that is just, democratic and united.
Our World – Our Choice
We, the citizens of the planet, have a responsibility to look after it and to care for one another, so all are encouraged to get involved in establishing Global Justice and Global Democracy. It is our responsibility, indeed it is our privilege to be engaged in making this planet a better home for all of us, for our children, and for future generations. Considering the state of the world, and bearing in mind the number of people dying from hunger and war, we clearly have a moral responsibility to change the insanity of our ways by choosing from among ourselves people with a vision, people who are dedicated to Humanity. We are running out of time, so it is absolutely necessary that we start immediately to publicise and promote this new way forward for mankind.
All are encouraged to help in this all-important task of getting everybody in the world excited about the solution, and enthusiastic about voting only for committed candidates. Let every individual, company, trade union, political party, organization and government who desires this new approach, publicly declare their support for it, and help it in one way or another. Let urban councils, town councils, and churches proclaim their support, let all people seeking justice, and all groups, who wish to make their town, country or world a better place, promote this new approach. Let us write to the newspapers; contact our local radio or television so that everybody everywhere gets to know about it and to support it, you are encouraged to do this; it is, after all, your planet (the website has a list of ways to enable us all to help). Let us encourage friends, schools and companies to get involved in this undertaking. Every child, youth, woman and man is encouraged to help in this supremely important event; this new beginning; this new epoch in human history - Mankind's coming of Age. Let us not be silent - let us spread the news, let us encourage one another, let us speak and vote, and our voices and choices will be heard, and our Representatives will be chosen, and our Assembly will be formed, and our long-awaited World Peace will be established, and our civilisation will be blessed with harmony and prosperity. In the name of God, or in the name of reason, or in the name of common sense, or in the name of compassion, let us do this. This Assembly must, and will, become the number one political issue throughout the world. It must, and it will, overshadow all other political issues. We, the people, are either for it, or against it, there is no in-between, for us, or for the politicians. From now on everyone, absolutely everybody is called upon to vote for candidates, not because they belong to a specific political party, but more importantly because she or he has integrity and supports the idea of Peace and Prosperity through an International Assembly. It is inevitable that this will happen, it is just a matter of time, but let us not simply relax and let it happen, no let us be truly heroic in our efforts to transform the appalling state of the world by choosing only those candidates with a global vision and a desire to create this great and wonderful International Assembly, for without it, as each three seconds pass, another member of our family falls victim to injustice and disunity, and fails even to survive. For the sake of their suffering let us dedicate ourselves to the welfare of mankind by supporting this International Agreement for Justice, Unity and World Peace, and in time, their suffering will be alleviated and we will transform this battlefield for survival, into a peaceful rose garden of tolerance and dignity.
